After the commercial success of the incandescent light there were still many who were working on other forms of electrical lighting. Until 1938, when General Electric enjoyed widespread commercial success with the fluorescent light, the incandescent bulb was the standard, and the only choice for electrical lighting for both residential and commercial lighting.

The previous lighting revolution, which was fluorescent lighting, holds no comparison to, not only the energy savings but the boundless lighting applications which have accompanied the LED lighting revolution.

In the 1860’s the lighting revolution was about to take a turn that would begin to make electric lighting an everyday convenience that, eventually, would become something taken for granted.

The latest and greatest in lighting of all sorts is, of course, LED technology. In regard to residential and commercial lighting, this technology is able to potentially reduce the U.S. energy usage by 75% and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is driving research and development into new breakthroughs in every aspect of the technology.
